Hand Knotted Carpets

Hand-knotted carpets are a traditional form of carpet-making that have been practiced for centuries in India. This method of creating carpets involved hand-tying individual knots onto a warp, creating the pile of the carpet. Contents of pile can include wool, silk, or other materials, and the resulting carpet would be a beautiful and durable work of art.

The process of creating a hand-knotted carpet is really time-consuming which requires great skill and attention to detail. The first step in the process is to create the warp, also known as the foundation of a carpet. This is done by suspending a series of parallel threads on a loom, which provides the structure for the carpet.

In next phase, weaver ties the knots onto the warp threads. It is done by looping the pile material over two adjoined warp threads and then tying a knot to secure it in place. The weaver repeats the process over the entire width of the carpet, row by row, till the pile is completed. 

Once the pile is complete, the carpet is ready for finishing. It involves trimming the pile to create an even surface and washing the carpet to remove any remains of dirt or debris. Finally, the carpet is dried and inspected by the expert for quality before being rolled up and shipped to its new home.
